I love breakfast. I love the smell of warm pancakes, sizzling crispy spam, sunny side ups, and, of course, freshly-brewed coffee on a Saturday morning. Nothing beats a lazy weekend puttering around the table while the sun slowly eases into the day. There’s no immediate agenda in sight, and I have all the time in the world to simply devour sweet and oily food.
That’s why I was so happy to discover Stories by LilyPad — a “home cafe” located in a quiet neighborhood in West Triangle, Quezon City. (Yey to great cafes in my home turf!)
As you walk up the restaurant, you’ll see a spacious garden slash outdoor dining area for people who wish to bask in the morning sun. Inside, stark emerald green walls will greet you, an immediately colorful yet inviting design statement that sets the tone of Stories by LilyPad. It looks and feels like your cool, well-traveled aunt’s cozy (if not charmingly eccentric) home.
They have mismatched wooden tables and chairs, some of them look like precious antiques. An old piano stands at the far end of the room, while various boho knick-knacks — like old desktop fans, vinyl records, a huge dama juana — accentuate the room.
And oh I forgot to mention, they’re pet-friendly. Second yey!
As for food, I can guarantee they serve delicious breakfast staples. I’ve been here a total of four times, and each time I’m satisfied with the quality of each dish. For the coffee, I usually get their hazelnut latte, while Jed sticks to his no-fuss brewed coffee. All great, perfect coffee to ward off all forms of bad vibes for the day.
If it’s your first time here, order their foolproof grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. It’s a guaranteed winner. The tomato soup (omg) like a warm hug and even a kiss on the cheek, so comforting and delicious. Same goes for the three-cheese grilled sandwich.
If rice is your breakfast jam, please get their beef tapa silog dish. This is what Jed orders every time. I, on the other hand, cannot get enough of spam in the morning. I’ve enjoyed their spam with french toast, as well as the rice dish option.
Stories also serves real good champorado if you’re feeling nostalgic like I sometimes do. Champorado paired with tuyo (dried fish) always brings back happy childhood memories, like banana fritters, marshmallows, hot choco, and TJ hotdogs. This and classic plain pancakes. They serve those, too!
